The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
